Taizé Prayer

First Sundays at 9AM in Robinson Chapel

Each week of the summer, 3,000-6,000 young adults from across the globle join the brothers of the Community of Taizé in the villiage of Taizé in southern France for meetings - weeklong periods of prayer, bible study and service to the community. What is the draw for these young people to take a week of there summer to participate in the life of this ecumenical community? For many, it is their prayer. Over the years, the brothers have developed a distinctive style of prayer that employs repeated chant verses in many different languages, intersperced with readings from scripture and a significant period of silence. The brothers living out of their vocation to prayer is a testimony to unity of the church and to the power of connection with divine life in the lives of young and old alike around the world. The Community of Taizé lives what former Marsh Chapel Dean Howard Thurman called "common ground."

Here at Marsh Chapel, it is our desire to share in the prayerful experience, across denominational lines, that the Community of Taizé has developed. Each second Wednesday we gather in the nave of Marsh Chapel to pray in song and word and silence. Join us in what Br. Roger of Taizé called "the pilgrimage of trust on earth."

BrJohnBr. John of Taizé

Marsh Chapel is pleased to welcome Br. John from the Community of Taizé during our regular second-Wednesday prayer on November 12, 2008 at 7PM in the nave of Marsh Chapel. Following the prayer he will offer a Bible introduction. Br. John has written a great deal about the intersection of the biblical text and contemporary culture. His books will be available for purchase that evening. Join us for this special time of prayer in song and silence.
