Holy Week 2014

The week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday is the most important season of the Christian year. It is a time when we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, his betrayal, crucifixion, death, and ultimately his triumphant resurrection. The services listed below take place in the Marsh Chapel Nave unless otherwise noted.

Palm Sunday, April 13

11:00 a.m.       Interdenominational Protestant Worship Service

The Liturgy of the Palms/The Liturgy of the Passion

This service includes a reading of the Passion Gospel interspersed with meditations and hymns.

 

Wednesday in Holy Week, April 16

5:15 p.m.          Ecumenical Evening Prayer with Holy Communion

 

Maundy Thursday, April 17

6:00 p.m.        Interdenominational Worship Service with Holy Communion

 

Good Friday, April 18

12 – 3 p.m.      The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross

A service of word, meditation, music, and silence. Meditations are offered by Dean Hill and Boston University chaplains. The music offered is “Membra Jesu Nostri” of Dietrich Buxtehude.

 

Holy Saturday, April 19

7:30 p.m.         The Great Vigil of Easter (Robinson Chapel)

A service celebrating God’s plan of salvation, the resurrection of Jesus, the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism, and the rite of Confirmation. Rev. Dr. Robert Cummings Neville, Dean of the Chapel from 2003 until 2006, offers the sermon and celebrates the Festival Eucharist.

 

Easter Sunday, April 20

7:30 a.m.         Sunrise Service (Warren Alpert Mall, BU Beach)

9:00 a.m.        Festival Eucharist (Marsh Chapel Nave)

11:00 a.m.       Festival Eucharist (Marsh Chapel Nave)
