profileChapel Associate for Leadership Development

Rev. Soren M. Hessler serves as Chapel Associate for Leadership Development and has been a member of the Marsh Chapel staff since 2009.  He is passionate about equipping the next generation’s leaders for service in the church and the community.  At Marsh Chapel, Soren is responsible for providing administrative leadership and oversight to several aspects of undergraduate ministry.  Together with Chapel Associate for Vocational Discernment Rev. Jen Quigley, Soren co-supervises the undergraduate internship program for students exploring ministry.  Soren and Jen also co-celebrate the 7-minute Common Ground Communion liturgy on Thursdays at 12:20pm on Marsh Plaza during the academic year.

Soren is a provisional elder in the West Ohio Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church appointed to extension ministry here at Marsh Chapel.  He holds three masters degrees: an MDiv, an MA in Church Administration, and an EdM in policy, planning, and administration, with a specialization in higher education administration.  He also holds a graduate certificate in fundraising management.  Soren is currently a PhD student in practical theology, concentrating in church leadership and administration at the Boston University School of Theology.  His doctoral research evolves around issues of accreditation in theological education and mapping other “non-church” stakeholders in MDiv curriculum development and future clergy formation. Soren and Jen were married at Marsh Chapel by Dean Robert Allan Hill in 2009.
