The Bach Experience: Cantata Series

cantata

Led by Music Director Scott Allen Jarrett, the Bach Experience at Marsh Chapel explores Bach’s musical world and theological connections. In a series of four talks, Dr. Jarrett and the Chapel Choir and Collegium present four cantatas throughout the year in service and performance. As the largest portion of Bach’s compositional output, the
sacred cantatas possess great insight and perspective on the week’s liturgy through sensitive musical expression.

Bach gave us God’s word,
Mozart gave us God’s laughter,
Beethoven gave us God’s fire.
God gave us music, that we might pray without words.

The Eleventh Annual Bach Cantata Series

In this, the eleventh season of The Bach Experience, we present four cantatas that Bach composed in his first four months at Leipzig. Each Bach Experience Sunday begins at 9:45 a.m. with a 30-minute discussion of the work’s musical and theological significance. After a complimentary breakfast, the Experience continues with a complete performance of the cantata during the Sunday morning service.
