Founded
in 1952, the College of General Studies offers a two-year,
general education core curriculum, taught through a system
of team instruction. The extensive core curriculum is both
interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary and taught solely
by full-time Boston University faculty dedicated to teaching
as well as scholarship. Considering the depth of the core
curriculum and the faculty-student team approach, the College
is virtually unique.
CGS freshmen are the second largest
incoming class to Boston University's eleven undergraduate
schools and colleges.
All CGS freshmen are accepted as four-year bachelor’s
degree candidates, who, upon completion of the core program
and elective courses outside of CGS, continue to their choice
of any of the liberal arts and professional degree programs
in Boston University's ten undergraduate schools and colleges.
