Associate Professor John McGrath has focused his writing and research on early modern European history, especially French, Portuguese and Spanish discoveries and colonies in the New World.

 

 




His most recent book, The French in Early Florida: In the Eye of the Hurricane, outlines the tragic history of the French outposts established in Florida during the mid-sixteenth century. He has also written on Brazilian history, European geographical literature, and European political and religious propaganda during the early modern period.

Prof. McGrath has taught in both the freshman and sophomore programs at CGS since 1995. In 2007 he won the Peyton Richter Award for excellence in interdisciplinary teaching.
