Faculty at the College of General Studies are full-time, Ph.D. professors who are dedicated to creating the best possible educational experience for our freshmen and sophomores. Emphasis on quality undergraduate teaching is a hallmark of our program, and our policy of having all our courses taught by full-time faculty instead of teaching assistants or adjuncts is fairly unique among research universities. But our professors are also active researchers in their disciplinary areas. This means they are regularly presenting papers at conferences, publishing articles and reviews in academic journals, and publishing scholarly books, as well as poems, short stories, and novels. Since they are devoted to both teaching and research, they often involve undergraduates in their scholarly projects, which give students an excellent opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, to explore an area that could lead to a major or graduate work, and even to co-present or co-publish with their professors.
