Jumpstart is a national literacy organization that works with preschoolers in low-income neighborhoods, preparing them to be successful in school and life. In an effort to combat America’s early education crisis, a precursor to the educational achievement gap, Jumpstart fosters adult-child relationships that focus on building literacy in combination with social and emotional readiness.
Here at Boston University, we are recruiting 45 Jumpstart Corps members for the 2012-2013 school year. Teams of seven to ten Corps Members go into local preschools two afternoons per week and work with the same group of children for the entire school year. Jumpstart Corps members commit to 200 or 300 hours of service (about 8 or 12 hours per week) and can qualify for a $1132 AmeriCorps Education Award at the end of their service. As a Corps Member, you’ll gain amazing experience, develop incredible friendships, build your resume and references, and most importantly, make a difference in a child’s life! A limited number of Work-Study or Stipend position are available.
Corps Member Position Details:
- 8 – 12 hrs/week (300 hours total, October-May)
- $1175 AmeriCorps Education Award available
- A limited number of Work-Study or Stipend positions available
- All Corps Members must have at least two afternoons available in their schedule to work in the preschools (usually between 2:00 – 6:00).
