South Africa Country Program
The Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office (HE2RO) a collaboration between CGHD and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg provides a base for the center’s research on the economics and epidemiology of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention, care, and treatment in South Africa. The CGHD has had a local presence in South Africa since October 2003. Through HE2RO, CGHD researchers work closely with fellow scientists from the University of the Witwatersrand’s Clinical HIV Research Unit, Right to Care, and other local institutions and receive support from USAID and other funders. The HE2RO team includes BU faculty and staff based in Johannesburg and in Boston, as well as faculty and staff of the University of the Witwatersrand. HE2RO is directed by Ian Sanne of the University of the Witwatersrand and co-directed by Sydney Rosen and Matthew Fox of BUSPH. The Deputy Director of HE2RO is Lawrence Long. A full list of HE2RO’s directors and staff in Johannesburg and Boston can be found on the HE2RO website.
