abraham-mar-paulosThe Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose (ThD, 1993) is now serving as Episcopa (bishop) of the Dioceses of Mumbai and Delhi of the Malankara Marthoma Syrian Church. Formerly known as K.U. Abraham, Bishop Mar Paulose received his doctorate from the School of Theology in Christian education and missiology. He is widely known for his work with youth, and he serves as president of the Kerala Council of Churches.

Benjamin Hartley Evangelicals at a Crossroads

 

Benjamin Hartley‘s (ThD, 2005) Evangelicals at a Crossroads: Revivalism and Social Reform in Boston, 1860-1910 was released in December 2010 by University of New Hampshire Press.  Hartley is currently an associate professor of Christian mission at Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Mary Lou Shea

Mary Lou Shea (ThD, 2006) released Medieval Women on Sin and Salvation through Peter Lang Publishing.  Shea is currently assistant professor of religion at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.



 

Chong-Gyiau Wong, (BU ThD, 1992) is the founding Dean of the School of Theology at Chang Jung Christian University in Tainan, Taiwan. It is the first government accredited theological school in Taiwan.


 

 

Olu MenjayOlu Q. Menjay (STM, 2005)was installed as Vice-President of the Baptist World Alliance, the youngest person to hold the post.  Menjay is principal and chief administrative officer of the Ricks Institute, a learning and faith community near Monrovia, Liberia. Looted and vandalized during the Liberian civil war, the school is the only private school in Liberia offering free primary education.


Rady Roldan-Figueroa

 

Rady Roldan-Figueroa (BU ThD, 2005) published The Ascetic Spirituality of Juan de Avila (1499-1569) through Brill in December 2010. Currently, Roldan-Figueroa is assistant professor of religion at Baylor University.

Angel Santiago Vendrell

 

 

Angel Santiago-Vendrell‘s (ThD, 2008) Contextual Theology and Revolutionary Transformation in Latin America: The Missiology of M. Richard Shaull was recently published by Wipf and Stock.  Santiago-Vendrell is assistant professor of mission at Memphis Theological Seminary.


A fifth volume of Horace Grant Underwood and Lillias Horton Underwood Papers is published by Yonsei University Press in February 2010, edited by Sung-Deuk Oak (ThD, 2002), assistant professor of Korean Christianity at UCLA.

Titus PreslerTitus Presler‘s  (ThD, 1995) Going Global With God to be published by Morehouse Publishing.  His article, “Mission is Ministry in the Dimension of Difference: A Definition for the 21st Century” appeared in the October 2010 issue of the International Bulletin of Missionary Research. He remains involved in many aspects of ministry:  Presler was made Honorary Canon Theologian of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, he facilitated two theological consultations in India in 2010 in an effort to help Anglicans worldwide to continue in mission together amid disagreements, and he is delivering the fifth annual Henry and Marion Presler Lecture on Christian World Mission at Louisville Seminary, Oct. 21, 2010, on the topic, “Mission in the Shadow of 9/11: Thinking Witness a Decade Later.”

Douglas (PhD, 1993) was recently elected bishop of the Connecticut diocese.  Prior to his election, Douglas was the Angus Dun Professor of Mission and World Christianity at the Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA. He had also been an associate priest at St. James Episcopal Church in Cambridge,  MA; worked at the Episcopal Church Center in New York City in overseas development; and earlier was a parish assistant in the Diocese of Haiti.

Casely Essamuah (ThD, 2003) appears in Duke Divinity School’s “Faith and Leadership” newsletter.  His dissertation Genuinely Ghanaian: A History of the Methodist Church Ghana, 1961-2000 was recently published by Africa World Press.  He is  currently the Compassionate Outreach Pastor at Bay Community Church in Annapolis, MD.

Missions and Unity

Norman E. Thomas has published Missions and Unity:  Lessons from History, 1792-2010 through Wipf & Stock.  It is the first systematic attempt to catalog how the modern missionary movement created an understanding of and work toward Christian unity.  The book draws on a diverse Christian traditions:  Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant (conciliar, evangelical, Pentecostal, and independent).

Mobley (ThD, 2004) has published the definitive biography of Helen Barrett Montgomery:  The Global Mission of Domestic Feminism.  Mobley is currently the senior pastor of Enon Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC, and an adjunct professor of Church History at Pfeiffer University.

Dr. Myung-Soo Park (STM, 1992) is professor of Church History, Seoul Theological University and director of Holiness Church History Research Centre.  Seoul Theological University has released his book, One Hundred Year History of the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church.

 

 

Mission_Education_subsaharanDr. Nathan Goto has published a new book called Mission Education transforms sub-Saharan Indigenous African People. This book has added to the reservoir of information and knowledge about the work and legacy of missionaries in Sub-Saharan Africa. By writing this Book, Dr Goto has exhorted the Christian Church and its adherents to know where we came from and where we
are and where we going. His meticulous attention to detail in telling the story, and ability to discern hidden meaning through research and analysis are some of the skills evident in this work. It is a good book to anyone with thirst and hunger for the history and legacy of the Christian Church in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

Dr. Angel D. Santiago Vendrell (Th.D, 2008) presented a lecture, titledOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA “Walking in the Spirit: An Invitation to A Latino Theology of Religions” in Nov. 10, 2011, at Union Theological Seminary. He is currently E. Stanley Jones Assistant Professor of Evangelization at Asbury Theological Seminary.

 

 

Dr OakDr. Sung-Deuk Oak (Th.D, 2002) has recently published the following four books. He was also rewarded tenure at UCLA in the department of Asian languages and cultures.

Dr. Olu Menjay (STM at BU) has been elected  president of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention. He has served as a principal of Ricks Institute, a school with 620 students located about 15 miles from Liberia’s capital Monrovia, and now works for a three-year term of office at a convention meeting since March 17, 2012.
