About

Boston University College of Fine Arts The Boston University School of Visual Arts’ Summer Institute offers high school students (ages 15–18) an intensive four-week visual arts program designed to help students build exceptional portfolios. Whether preparing portfolios for college admission or simply working to improve technical abilities, students are introduced to a full range of materials and methods used in professional artistic practice. Students in the Visual Arts Summer Institute work from nature, still life, and the human figure. The program encourages students to look and learn by teaching objective skills and providing guidance in the use of imagination. In addition to studio time, students visit and study works of art in area museums, participate in master classes, and interact with students in other Boston University pre-college programs.

Visual Arts Summer Institute classes are held at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts, located on the Charles River Campus. The College of Fine Arts prepares students for professional careers in visual arts, theatre arts, and music. The School of Visual Arts grants undergraduate degrees in painting, sculpture, graphic design, and art education, as well as graduate degrees in art education, painting, graphic design, and sculpture.
