Information for International Students

Boston University College of Fine Arts | School of Visual Arts

All international students must submit an application and required accompanying documents (please see specific program requirements). In addition, students must complete the International Student Data Form. This form is included with the on-line application. Please note that the International Student Data Form does not take the place of the application for admission. International students must submit both the International Student Data Form  [pdf on the cfa website] and the application for admission.

All international students whose native language is not English and who have graduated from a college/university at which English was not the language of instruction must take the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL) test. For master’s degree candidates, a score of 550 (213 on computer-based examination or 80 on the internet examination) or above is required. For doctoral candidates, a score of 600 (250 on computer-based examination or 100 on the internet examination) or above is required. The CFA reporting number for the TOEFL is 3082. TOEFL scores are due by the application deadline.  Students are urged to send a copy of the TOEFL report along with other materials as it is occasionally difficult to obtain scores from the testing service.
