The Sherman Gallery is dedicated to showcasing the work of talented alumni as well as current faculty members and students of the School of Visual Arts. Additionally, the Sherman Gallery presents solo and group exhibitions featuring the work of outside artists to support and expand the School’s curriculum. Located on the second floor of the George Sherman Union building at 775 Commonwealth Avenue, the Sherman Gallery is highly visible to both the BU community and visitors to the campus.

Casual Males explores notions of masculinity through the varied styles of contemporary portraiture. The exhibition includes painting and drawing by male artists who take innovative and traditional approaches to the portrait, depicting themes of friendship, family, gender, and sexuality from a distinctly male perspective. Artists include Gideon Bok, Jonathan Burstein, Geoffrey Chadsey, TM Davy, Emmet Duggan, Frederick Hayes, Sedrick Huckaby, Kurt Kauper, Steve Locke, Rob Matthews, Sam McKinniss, and j. Morrison. Selection of forty years of Hungarian art from the Nancy G. Brinker collection

The exhibition features a selection of paintings by contemporary Hungarian artists created since 1956 from the collection of Nancy G. Brinker. The artists in the exhibition courageously address in their work key political and social issues deemed off-limits during the turbulent decades of the late 20th century and share a commitment to a freedom of expression in the face of possible persecution by totalitarian leaders.
