BFA, Massachusetts College of Art; MFA, Boston University, Dean’s Scholar. Also teaches in the London Summer British Programmes through Boston University’s International Programs. Awards include a visiting fellowship, Chelsea College of Art & Design, University of the Arts London; a Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship; and a distinguished alumni award from Greater Lowell Regional Technical High School. He is an award-winning designer and has exhibited his poster designs at many international events and competitions, including the Seventh International Poster Triennial in Toyama, Japan, and recently solo exhibitions at the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, and at Suzhou Art and Design Technology Institute, Suzhou, China. Richard conducts lectures and workshops on design history throughout the world and recently spoke at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing and led a cultural concept book workshop at Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute in Suzhou, China. Richard has been invited to jury the 2008 Tokyo Art Directors Club annual design competition. Presently, Richard is curating a international poster exhibition titled, Posters of The Digital Revolution.

Richard is principal of Richard Doubleday Design. His clients include Seimens, and Massachusetts Software and Internet Council. He is a former graphic designer for Rothman Partners, Inc. Architects and Lincoln Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a former board member, College of Fine Arts Alumni Association and is currently a member of the Boston Society of Printers.

Richard is a member of the writing team for Phaidon Graphic Classics and serves as an editorial advisor and contributing writer for the 4th and 5th editions of Meggs’ History of Graphic Design. His writings on design history have been published in Baseline, IDEA, A! DISEÑO, IdN, Icograda, Print, NOVUM, Neshan Iran, Shift Japan, Typo Prague, and Australian Creative. His posters have been published in numerous periodicals and publications, including Design & Packaging China and Atlas of Graphic Design published by Maomao Publications. Richard is author of Jan Tschichold, Designer: The Penguin Years published by Oak Knoll Press USA and Lund Humphries U.K and co-author of Jan Tschichold Master Typographer: His Life, Work and Legacy published by Thames & Hudson in 2008.
