On-Campus Housing

Theatre Institute students are housed in Boston University residences, which include 24-hour security and supervision. Students are on single-sex floors and usually in standard double occupancy rooms, with a roommate assignment based on age. All Theatre Institute floors are supervised by the Boston University Theatre Institute student-life staff and by Boston University Resident Assistants.

Curfew rules are in place to protect each student's safety. The residence hall curfews are strictly enforced and are as follows:

  • Sunday through Thursday nights: 11:00 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday nights: Midnight

The Boston University Theatre Institute is a pre-college program in a professional theatre training environment; it is not a summer camp. A student's failure to act appropriately can interfere with the work of other students and prevent them from obtaining maximum benefit from the program. Rules governing student conduct while enrolled in the Theatre Institute are provided to each student at registration. Unless over 21 years of age, all students enrolled in the Boston University Theatre Institute program must reside on campus or locally with parents.

Non-Residential/Day Students

Students who live in the area are eligible for Non-Residential/Day student status. These students are still required to be in classes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and rehearsals from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. rehearsals on Saturdays.

These students are exempt from the housing fee. However, full tuition, health services, books, and activities fees still apply. While a meal plan is not required, it is strongly recommended, as meal times are part of the overall experience for the students.

Boston University School of Theatre is not responsible for transporting students to and from the program, nor are they responsible for the Non-Residential/Day students outside of class and rehearsal times.
