The Flute Workshop addresses a broad range of important topics related to flute performance. Under the direction of outstanding artist/teacher Linda Toote, principal flutist of the Boston Lyric Opera, participants receive individual attention during regularly scheduled master classes and coaching sessions, with time given each day for individual practice.
Classes will focus on the foundations of the instrument such as tone, technique, intonation, phrasing, dynamic control, articulation, scales, arpeggios and vibrato.
Solo repertoire and excerpts also comprise a large portion of the program chosen from the list of standard flute repertoire –in preparation for college and solo auditions:
J. S Bach, Sonatas; C.P.E. Bach, Solo Sonata or Concerti; Mozart, Concerti; Debussy, Syrinx; Dutilleux, Sonatine; Enesco, Catabile and Presto; Faure, Fantasy or Pavanne; Gluck, Dance of the Blessed Spirits; Honneger, Danse de la Chevre; Hue, Fantasie; Gaubert, Madrigal or Sonatas; Messiaen, Le merle Noir; Poulenc, Sonata; Prokofiev, Sonata; Reinecke, Sonata or Concerto; Schubert, Introduction and Variations; Telemann, Fantasies, Suite in a minor, Sonatas.
Orchestra Excerpts include:

Attention is given to piccolo playing as part of the workshop and there are also opportunities to work on duets, trios and quartets.
Each student receives weekly individual coaching sessions with an accompanist in preparation for a Flute Workshop solo and ensemble recital at the conclusion of the program.
