BooBU College of Fine Arts and the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center invite you to join us as we celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Dean Emerita Phyllis Curtin. Through music, words, and imagery, we will reflect on the work, reach, and spirit of an exquisite artist, a gifted teacher, and a masterful leader.
Program includes a performance by the Muir String Quartet, a duet from tenor Daniel Brenna and School of Music Director ad interim Shiela Kibbe, piano, and scenes from Cosi Fan Tutte, performed by Chelsea Basler, soprano, Emily Spencer, mezzo-soprano, Erik van Heyningen, bass baritone, and William Lumpkin, piano. Program to also feature a recording from Faure’s chanson d’eve, Op. 95 Omor, poussiere d’etooiles (van Lerberghe) by soprano Dawn Upshaw, as well as a video tribute, “Phyllis Curtin in Song and Aria,” courtesy of the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.
Opera composer Carlysle Floyd, for whom she created the title role for in Susannah, among special guests invited to offer remembrances of Curtin. Longtime professor and close friend Alston Purvis and former classical music critic from the Boston Globe, Richard Dyer, also to speak, as well as daughter Claudia d’Allessandro.
