Young Artists Harp Seminar

Ages 14 – 18

The Harp Seminar provides the opportunity for six weeks of intensive study with Ann Hobson Pilot, recently retired principal harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Students receive a one-hour lesson with Ms. Pilot each week stressing technique and the interpretation and performance practices of the standard harp repertoire and important orchestral excerpts. They receive an additional weekly lesson with Ms. Pilot’s assistant, Franziska Huhn.

Students also perform chamber music, participate in harp ensemble, and are enrolled in music theory classes. Ms. Pilot and guest artists such as Paula Page, Alice Giles, and Elisabeth Remy give a master class during the session. In addition, students are coached in preparation for future auditions and competitions, and are expected to spend a significant amount of time in individual practice.

Each season, harpists are chosen from the Harp Seminar to participate in the Young Artists Orchestra and/or Wind Ensemble.
