The Student Life staff of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in student services and is fully committed to the program's academic mission.

All the positions are enjoyable and educational but demand significant time and energy. The positions are live-in and the hours that staff members work are often dictated by the needs of the student community rather than by the convenience of the staff members. Compensation includes weekly salary; living accommodations; daily breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner; local telephone service only; certification from the American Red Cross in Standard First Aid and Adult CPR; and, a Tanglewood grounds pass.

Housing and Residence Life Management

Each management position is responsible for a specific area of campus life—campus operations; security and transportation; student life and resident assistant supervision; judicial affairs and housing assignments; and, office management.

Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants

Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants live in residences with students; plan educational and social programs and events; perform administrative duties in the central campus Student Life Office and elsewhere; and uphold and enforce campus rules and regulations.

The fundamental goals of the Student Life staff are:

  • Providing and maintaining a campus and residences that are safe, quiet, alcohol-, smoke-, and drug-free, free from all illegal activities, and where civility and respect for others are the norms for community life
  • Facilitating-in cooperation with the academic faculty and staff-student development, which spans the following areas: artistic, cultural, interpersonal, emotional, and moral
  • Providing nonacademic services that operate efficiently and meet the demands of the program

Following the successful review of written applications, an in-person interview in Boston or Lenox, Massachusetts, is required. Review of applications will begin in January of 2008 and continue until all positions are filled.
