Composition and Theory

Degrees offered

In the School of Music, students study with composers who are significant figures in the contemporary music scene. Performance opportunities with ensembles and the Boston University Symphony Orchestra are combined with comprehensive training in theory, counterpoint, harmony, orchestration, and contemporary techniques. Resident ensemble Alea III, conducted by Theodore Antoniou, provides regular opportunities to experience new music. At the Composers Forum you will interact with visiting composers. The electronic and computer music facility is alive with energy and innovation.
