MusM with a Major in Theory

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application for graduate admission to the College of Fine Arts.
  • Non-refundable application fee of $70.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Artistic résumé.
  • An analytical paper that was submitted as part of undergraduate degree work.
  • At least one example of tonal composition such as a fugue, short sonata movement, or other academic composition.
  • Personal statement indicating the applicant’s purpose in pursuing graduate work, including career objectives.
  • Two (2) Letters of recommendation from music professionals/educators. These may be submitted online using supplied Letter of Recommendation Form, or an offical letter from the recommeder in a sealed envelope.

Students must be proficient in one modern language, preferably German, and must satisfactorily complete an examination in music theory. A performance audition is not required for admission to the MusM program in Theory. However, students must satisfy a basic keyboard proficiency requirement to receive the MusM degree in Theory.
