MusM with a Major in Historical Performance

The Historical Performance program is designed for performers on harpsichord, fortepiano, and other period instruments, as well as for singers.

Applicants must meet the general prerequisite requirements for the MusM program. In addition, Historical Performance majors must complete the following:

  • Completed application for graduate admission to the College of Fine Arts.
  • Non-refundable application fee of $70.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • An audition. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency by performing works in different national styles from the 17th and 18th centuries. Applicants must audition in person unless their place of residence is over 300 miles from Boston. You may arrange an audition online or complete the Audition Request Form and return it to the School of Music. Taped audition material may also be accepted and must be received by January 15.   • Two (2) Letters of recommendation from music professionals/educators. These may be submitted online using supplied Letter of Recommendation Form, or an offical letter from the recommeder in a sealed envelope.
  • A complete repertory listing.
  • Artistic résumé.
  • Personal statement indicating the applicant’s purpose in pursuing graduate work, including career objectives.

Financial Aid

Applicants wishing to receive financial aid from the College of Fine Arts must submit an application for admission. There is no financial aid application.
