MusM Majors: Application Requirements and Curricula

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited music school or college with a major in the specific subject in which the degree is sought, or with credits equivalent to the corresponding baccalaureate curriculum at Boston University. A superior undergraduate record is required.

Students who are required to make up a deficiency in any area of music must complete designated prerequisite courses with grades no lower than B. Credit for a course taken to remedy a deficiency will not count toward the completion of degree requirements.

Applicants must have attained a level of competence in a foreign language equivalent to that required of Boston University undergraduates who concentrated in a corresponding major.

Applicants must demonstrate talent and ability in performance, scholarship, or composition (depending on major) sufficient for superior accomplishment at the graduate level.

Each specialization has additional requirements for admission.

Readmission of graduate students who have withdrawn from degree programs or whose statute of limitations has expired will be considered on an individual basis by the student's department. Such applications will be processed as new admissions and acceptance will be based upon the availability of space in the program, a new audition, and the previous level of work.
