B.Mus.Ed., M.Mus.Ed., Brandon University; Ph.D. University of Toronto. Dr. Mantie is an internationally active scholar and jazz educator, and a symphonic band conductor. His articles have been published in Canadian Music Educator, Critical Studies in Improvisation, Exploring Social Justice: How Music Education Might Matter, International Journal of Community Music, Music Education Research, and proceedings from various conferences. Prior to his appointment at Boston University, he taught instrumental music in Manitoba, directed jazz ensembles and taught improvisation at Brandon University, taught undergraduate courses at the University of Toronto, conducted the University of Toronto Hart House Symphonic Band and directed the Royal Conservatory of Music Community School Jazz Ensemble.
