Dr. Jones has enjoyed an international career as a conductor of professional and youth bands, and is Conductor Emeritus of the Sinfonisches Blasorchester Eifel-Ardennen. He has served as an officer and board member of various professional organizations and is national chair-elect of the MENC History Special Research Interest Group and colloquium coordinator for the MayDay Group. He has presented workshops and scholarly papers internationally on a variety of topics to include history, curriculum, and policy, is a contributing author to four books, and is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Community Music and Visions of Research in Music Education. His articles and reviews have been published in ACT-Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education, Arts Education Policy Review, Clarino, International Journal of Community Music, Journal of Band Research, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, M-Musik Zum Lesen, PMEA News, Visions of Research in Music Education, proceedings from various conferences, and the College Music Society's Critical Issues in Music Teacher Education. Prior university appointments include The University of the Arts and State University of New York at Fredonia, and he taught elementary and secondary music in Hollidaysburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to his academic career, he is a Colonel and Chief of Air National Guard Bands; responsible for budgeting and policy for all 11 Air National Guard bands in the United States. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces School of Music, Army Non-commissioned Officer's Academy, Air National Guard Academy of Military Science, Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College. His research interests include policy, music education history, and the intersection of theory and practice.
