Leon Bernsdorf, SOM Alum, Wins 3rd Prize in Liszt Ferenc International Piano Competition

Leon Bernsdorf, CFA ’14 & ’16, won third prize at the Fourteenth Liszt Ferenc International Piano Competition in Budapest, Hungary on September 11, 2016. Bernsdorf completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in  2014, followed by a Master of Music in Piano Performance in 2016. During his time at Boston University, Bernsdorf studied with Professors Boaz Sharon and Pavel Nersesiyan.

In the Liszt Ferenc International Piano Competition, Sakata Tomoki of Japan (left in image) took first prize while Russian pianist Sergei Beliavsky (right in image) placed second.  Thirty-six pianists from eleven different countries participated in the competition. This year’s competition marks the 205th anniversary of the birth and the 130th anniversary of the death of composer and pianist Ferenc Liszt.
