Information for Incoming Freshmen

Welcome to the Boston University College of Fine Arts! We look forward to having you join us as members of the Class of 2022!

Below is a checklist of information that you’ll want to review and refer to, prior to arrival in the fall.

You must establish a BU e-mail address through Information Technology before attending University Orientation.

Make sure your New Student Housing Application has been submitted, and refer to the BU Housing website for any questions regarding your room assignment.

Orientation is designed to ease your transition to Boston University. The programming will introduce you to the campus community and resources, and ensure that you are properly registered for your classes. CFA Student Advisors (SAs) and staff will be there to guide you through the orientation process! Be sure to check out the Tips from our 2018 CFA Orientation SAs below.

Note: Orientation is mandatory for all new students.

  • You should bring towels, walking shoes, spare cash (just in case), water bottle
  • Check Boston weather and bring weather appropriate clothes (prepare for rain)
  • You should not bring sheets, blankets, or pillows
  • You don’t need your instrument!! (SOM students)

Your program requirements are outlined in the BU Academic Bulletin. You can also visit the CFA website and find information under each School tab (Music, Theatre, Visual Arts). You will also learn more about the curriculum at Orientation!

The Student Link is your personal and secure online tool to access a variety of important information. During your time at BU, you’ll use the Student Link for a variety of essential tasks: to view and change your personal information, view your student financial account, check your grades, confirm classroom locations, and register for classes.

As a College of Fine Arts student, you are required to affirm that you have read Boston University’s Academic Conduct Code.
