70 Artists for 100 Artistic Interventions
Since 2012, the Medical Campus at Boston University has become a regular stage for the ARTS. An average of 70 CFA student-artists bring about 100 artistic interventions each year––aiming to honor, enrich and transform the highly diverse and vibrant community at Boston Medical Center and nearby shelters. Patient-artist creative collaborations, performances, artistic presents and cross-disciplinary dialogues are the result of an ongoing commitment to translate individual ability into collective experiences.

Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO)
Dedicated to providing talented young musicians with opportunities for personal and artistic growth, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras offers elementary and secondary school students a challenging rehearsal and performance experience in a professional environment. In addition to making musical training available for young people, this vital arts organization serves the community by encouraging a greater understanding of and participation in music.
Boston University has been a major sponsor of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras since the organization was established in 1958.
Prison Education Program
Prison Education Program (tied into CFA-wide initiative, led by School of Music):
Boston University offers classes at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute at Framingham, a medium security prison for women, and at the Massachusetts Correctional Institute at Norfolk, a medium security prison for men. Despite a diversity of situations and backgrounds, very few of the students have had access to an arts education prior to their incarceration. CFA faculty and students have come together to bring art and music appreciation courses to prisoners, encouraging free expression and interpretation through visual art, music, and poetry.
Past projects have included a collaborative mural made by the women at MCI-Framingham with the guidance of local public artist Sidewalk Sam. Learn More
Roxbury Preparatory School Partnership
The Boston University School of Visual Arts and Roxbury Preparatory School at the Lucy Stone Campus have a partnership to create transformative arts experiences for students at the charter school and the School of Visual Arts. The partnership allows Boston University and Roxbury Prep students to come together in meaningful ways, and provides arts programming not currently offered in the Roxbury Prep curriculum. Through workshops that aim to expand students’ technical and conceptual artistic knowledge, BU students will foster relationships with junior high school students and, in alignment with Roxbury Prep’s values and mission, inspire them to envision a college-bound track. In the Spring 2015 semester, the partnership led to a community mural that brough together graduate and undergraduate students, artists from the Roxbury community and Roxbury Prep staff, students and families.
