School of Music

Estrid Eklof (SOM ’56) is one of five artists whose collective show, Parallel Visions, will be featured at Canton Public Library’s Gallery for the months of May and June. An opening reception for this exhibition will be held on May 5 from 2 – 4pm.

Nancy Roblin (SOM ’76) retired as the music director of the Frederick Chorale in Maryland, after nearly 35 years.  She  founded the group in 1976.

Jeffrey Conner (SOM ’87) performed w/his group Boston Brass Quintet as part of the Caldwell Fine Arts Series at the University of Idaho in March.

Holly Barkhymer (SOM ’94) is a regular blogger in her position of Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Kelly Kaduce (SOM ’99) and Arturo Chaçon-Cruz (SOM ’03) performed the roles of Cio-Cio San (Madame Butterfly) and BF Pinkerton in Minnesota Opera’s season finale performance of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in April.

Alexander LeCarme (SOM ’05) received a great review in The Boston Music Intelligencer for his performance in the Hammond Preforming Art Series concert in March. Read about the Astonishing Debut from Quartet in Hammond Series.

Helen Beke-Morin (SOM ’05) performed Brahms & Beethoven w/pianist & organist colleague at the St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South, on Anastasia Island, Florida in March.

Teresa Wakim (SOM ’05) made her solo debut with Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society when she performed Mozart’s Coronation Mass in April at Symphony Hall in Boston.  This month she will solo with the Back Bay Chorale, performing Haydn’s “The Seasons” on May 5, at Sanders Theater in Cambridge.

Clare Longendyke (SOM ’09) recently won the Jacobs School of Music ‘Bartok’ concerto competition sponsored by Indiana University Bloomington and performed the Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in April at the university.

Joshua Rzepka (SOM ’10) recently released his latest CD, Into the Night, which climbed to #9 on the CMJ Chart in February and #19 on the Jazz Week Chart in March.

School of Theatre

Scott Edmiston, (‘95) Director of the Office of the Arts at Brandeis University, hosted the annual Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts in April.  He also teamed up with fellow alumni Karen MacDonald (’72) and Will Lyman (’71) to direct Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night at the New Repertory Theater in Watertown, MA, in April.

Jack Eldon (‘81) was promoted to domestic Vice President for the Disney Theatrical Group at the newly restored New Amsterdam Theatre, where Mary Poppins plays on Broadway. Jack is responsible for all things domestic from the business perspective such as Broadway, tours, licensing and development productions.

Nancy Goldstein (SOT ’83) was recently interviewed by the Boston Globe regarding her work with the annual Boston Flower & Garden Show and her design firm, Light Positive, in Marblehead, MA.

Thomas Stevens (SOT ’83) was recently interviewed about his passion for photography during his spare time.  Thomas serves as a State Representative for his home state of Vermont.

Congratulations to James Fluhr (SOT ’11) for receiving national recognition as part of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. James was the recipient of two awards, Distinguished Production of a New Work, and Distinguished  Performance by an Actor, both for Our Lady.

School of Visual Arts

Susan Wilson (’68) finished her book, Trade Secrets, a collection of personal tips, techniques, art and writings of a well-known artist, illustrator, cartoonist and animator. Trade Secrets will be published on June 20.

Meera Thompson (SVA ’78) has an upcoming exhibit, Capriccio: Recent Work, at the Atlantic Gallery in New York City. The exhibit will run from May 22 through June 15.

David Wells Roth (’79, ’05) had his exhibit, Paintings from the Urban Theater, shown at the St. Botolph Club in Boston in February and March.

Linda Lyons (’81) will exhibit her work at the Darien Library, in Connecticut, through May 31, with an opening reception on May 18. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Carole Rabe (’88) had her exhibit, Observations, shown at the Wellesley Free Library, Wellesley, MA, in March.

Dean Valadez (’04) was one of three featured artists in the exhibit Obscura at the EFFJAY PROJEKTS Gallery in Sheboygan, WI.  The exhibit ran from March to April.
