CFA Saturday Workshops
This fall, the College of Fine Arts has invited students from throughout BU to build their leadership skills in three workshops. Join us for our final workshop this semester:
The City as Artistic Platform
Saturday, November 12, 10am-5pm
CFA Concert Hall
Faculty Leader: Hugh O’Donnell, with Scott Burnham
The organizing thought of this workshop is to view the City of Boston as a creative platform – to create with the existing urban infrastructure, and to view the city’s spaces, objects and areas as source material for further creativity. This does two things for participating students. First, it empowers them as a creative force within the existing city – they are not on the receiving end of the aesthetic decisions of others, but participants in the next level of creative intervention in the city. Second, it sharpens their creative eye – the city is now not the backdrop of their daily lives, but a playground filled with opportunities for creative engagement.
To kick off the workshop, Scott Burnham will present an overview of how DIY initiatives and micro urban interventions are changing cities around the world, drawing from first-hand examples from his recent projects, Urban Play, Amsterdam, and Bairro Criativo, Porto, Portugal, and how both offered an insight into how individual creativity can transform the physical and psychological landscape of a city.
