Emissary Quartet Invited to Quarter Final of Fischoff Competition

Emissary Quartet

Colleen McElroy, MM’16, flute has been invited to the quarter final round of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Emissary Quartet on May 6, 2016 in South Bend, Indiana. EQ is made up of flutists Weronika Balewski, Rebecca Chapman, Colleen McElroy, and Sarah Shin.

Emissary Quartet (EQ) is dedicated to expanding the flute quartet repertoire by commissioning and performing new works, creating innovative educational programming, and reaching out to new audiences to advocate for the flute quartet as a genre. The ensemble formed in the early days of the flutists’ undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon University, and their YouTube recordings quickly earned notice from colleagues across the country. EQ has begun curating a catalogue of new works that fully exploit the dynamic expressive capabilities of four flutes together. The flutists of EQ live across the United States, and meet for performance and teaching residencies throughout the year. Recent activities have taken EQ to Utah, Pittsburgh, Iowa, and Boston, and the ensemble has been invited to perform at the National Flute Association Convention in 2016. They have been the recipient of Friend of Flutes Foundation Emerging Ensemble Grants in 2015 and 2016.

Colleen McElroy is a student of Professor Linda Toote.
