Boston University College of Fine Arts Hosts Artist in Residence Francisco Araiza

In the closing celebration of the Spirit of Verdi, one week residency with Mexican tenor includes Masterclass and Concert Series

Boston, MA – The School of Music at Boston University College of Fine Arts (CFA) welcomes internationally renowned Mexican tenor, Francisco Araiza, as Artist in Residence — March 18–24, 2013. In celebration of the bicentennial birth of Giuseppe Verdi, Maestro Araiza’s residency is presented by the Spirit of Verdi project, CFA’s year-long salute to the great composer.

“When planning for the Spirit of Verdi project, I was thrilled when Dean Benjamín Juárez offered to help bring the internationally celebrated tenor, Francisco Araiza, to BU as part of this celebration,” said Jerrold Pope, Chair of Voice at the School of Music at the College of Fine Arts at Boston University. “Araiza is an artist who has successfully embraced and traversed the vocal music of Mozart through the Bel Canto to Verdi. He is considered to be one of the most important interpreters of this repertoire in our time.”

As part of this one week residency, Francisco Araiza will work privately with Boston University Opera Institute, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as host a Formal Masterclass, open to the public, featuring Opera Institute singers on Thursday, March 21st at Tsai Performance Center.

Maestro Araiza will also coach graduate singers in Voice performing in the Verdi concert on Sunday, March 24th, in the CFA Concert Hall, as well as undergraduate singers performing in an Evening of Bel Canto songs and arias on Tuesday, March 26th at Tsai Performance Center, marking the close of the Spirit of Verdi project.
