Writing a Syllabus

A good syllabus provides more than just a list of course readings. It should also include:

  • a statement of course goals and/or student learning objectives
  • professor contact information, including office hour times and location
  • textbook and readings information
  • late, absence, and makeup policy
  • a statement referring to academic conduct policy

See a more detailed checklist for preparation of syllabi (pdf) prepared by Professor Alan Marscher, CAS Prof. of Astronomy and CET Academic Director.
