Textbooks and Readings for Courses

Information about textbook adoption and other services for faculty can be found at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at Boston University. Included among the services is preparation of course packets of reading material for courses and selling them directly to the students while complying with copyright law.

You can place reading materials on reserve at the library. Call 3-3739 to receive and fill out the required form. The forms also are available online.

Courseware - web-based course management systems - allow you to place reading materials in electronic form on a secure website for access by your students. The CET website provides information about this on our Online Course Management page.

XanEdu.com is an outside vendor that faculty may contact to produce course packets and custom textbooks which are distributed through the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at Boston University. They can be reached by email at contact@xanedu.com or by calling 800.218.5971 and ask for a Customer Support Representative. Detailed information for customizing teaching materials is also available.

Information on copyright issues is available online from the U.S. Copyright Office. Also see BU's Copyright Resources page. Copyrighted information (e.g. journal articles, professional photographs, videos, audio clips) may be made available to students on the web, but it must be in a password-protected area such as WebCT or CourseInfo such that only students registered in the course may gain access.
