One of the iMac Labs

Hardware: 18 Indigo Apple iMacs. 500Mhz G3 processor, 40GB HD, 128MB RAM, 512K L 2 cache, 160MHz system bus, FireWire, Harman Kardon speakers, ATI RAGE 128 VR 2D/3D graphics accelerator, 8MB SDRAM graphics memory. CD, no floppy drive.

Networking: 100Mb/s Fast Ethernet cards (connected to a 100Mb/s switched Ethernet hub). Connected to Macintosh Manager server (G4/500), one Windows NT 4 server, and the B.U. fiber optic backbone over TCP/IP. Static IP addresses.

 

1 > Carrels on long wall. Dividers provide some sense of privacy, but not much real acoustic or visual separation.

2 > Center and back of room. Island supports two stations and area for papers, books, etc.

3 > Right side of room with HP 2100 LaserJet printer in one carrel.

4 > Epson 500c projector on movable cart connected via VGA to teacher's eMac (with video mirroring). Cabled to cart.

All clusters of even numbers to facilitate pair work. Machines are cabled together and to desks for added security.
