When you need medical attention, Student Health Services should be your first stop. All students must first report to the clinic for treatment. A referral is required from the clinic prior to receiving treatment outside Student Health Services. If students do not obtain the referral prior to treatment, benefits are not payable.

All Boston University students must have medical insurance because medical care is very expensive in the United States. The insurance company will pay for your medical costs if you need hospital treatment. If you are admitted to the hospital, you must notify the insurance company within 72 hours following admission. This insurance policy is limited. The maximum amount for one illness or accident is $75,000. This insurance will not pay for:

  • Preventative dental care (teeth)
  • Eye examinations and eye glasses
  • Cosmetic surgery
