Zahra Abdulkarim Enssaif
Zahra Abdulkarim Enssaif, originally from Qudih, The eastern province of Saudi Arabia, began studying at CELOP in the spring of 2006. She has a Master’s in Applied Linguistics from King Saud University. In the fall of 2006, she is planning to study Instructional Technology at The School of Education at Boston University.
I chose to study at CELOP because I want to enroll at Boston University. Studying at CELOP will facilitate this process, because I will be taking graduate classes with native English speakers. CELOP has a very comprehensive program that will prepare me to take high-level academic courses.
At CELOP, I have developed my writing skills. I now know how to write clear, coherent and organized academic essays. I understand the differences between written and spoken English more fully. I am now in the habit of reading a lot from all different sources. This has increased my background knowledge, which has in turn improved my chances to excel on the TOEFL and GRE exams.
The entire CELOP staff and faculty will help you answer any type of question that might be on your mind. Teachers are available after classes to help students feel comfortable talking to them both in and outside of the classroom.
I think that CELOP effectively places students at the correct level and the teachers are good at identifying student strengths and weaknesses and they help us to improve our weak points. The CELOP faculty give balanced written and oral feedback, which helps students to become aware of their English ability and enables us to become independent learners. They help students to develop a balanced set of English skills. Teachers are skilled at facilitating the participation and progress of all students, regardless of their skill levels. In addition, faculty members choose effective texts and use them in creative ways.
When I deal with CELOP Faculty and Staff it feels like I am talking with my friends. I don’t hesitate to ask for anything. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They have taught me to apply English to real world situations. Even when I am in a class, it feels like I don’t have negative pressure; instead I feel a real need to learn and interest in the language itself.
Here at CELOP, students make positive relationships with each other. Everyone is very open-minded and interested in your culture and everyone is ready to speak with you freely and in a friendly manner. I really want to keep in contact with the new friends I have made here.
It is difficult for me to choose the best experience I have had in CELOP because everything has been perfect. The teachers and staff have been excellent. I have noticed that each part of the CELOP team has an area of specialization and that all together they are very skilled at handling a range of different challenges you might have living in a foreign country. They help you with each step of the process. For example, someone will help you register for standardized exams and give you advice when choosing the best university for you. CELOP staff and faculty are dedicated to helping us feel comfortable in the real world as well as in academic classes.
I think that CELOP is one of the best places in the world to study English. I have encouraged my own sister to study here, because I feel confident that she will continue to improve her skills. When I first came to Boston, I planned to take one semester of English only. But now I have decided to take the summer semester as well because I have improved my skills so much and I don’t want to lose this opportunity to improve my English.
I especially love the Thursday sit-com club and the Friday movies because Jenn Kay Fields and her assistant, Stella make things really fun. At the beginning of the meeting, we learn new vocabulary. We also eat food and play games related to what we watched. They also give you the transcript so that you can follow what the actors are saying. After the shows, we gave our opinions during discussions. If you go once, you will feel the need to go every week.
CELOP is so much more than just classes and homework. You will learn and have fun at the same time.
