Ruth Mendoza RosalesRuth Mendoza Rosales

Ruth, from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, is an English teacher and a Teacher Trainer.

Ruth studied at CELOP for 12 weeks. Ruth remembers that she was warmly welcomed at CELOP and she found this really encouraging. She highlights that, “besides providing a high-level English education, CELOP helps students experience American culture in different ways: trips, movies, reading clubs, even meeting some Americans in the American culture elective class”.

Ruth says she made progress in all language skills by writing different types of essays, reading intensively and extensively, discussing the readings and presenting speeches. She says that the listening sessions in the lab and in her elective speaking course were really helpful.

Ruth says that her participation in the CELOP Program was essential to her success in her Master’s Program at UMASS-Amherst.

Ruth also mentions that she learned more about American culture and, thanks to CELOP, she found her way around Boston and discovered many beautiful places there.

Ruth says her core class teachers were excellent. In her words: “I would like to give a gold medal to my core class teachers”.

Ruth particularly enjoyed an assignment that consisted of interviewing a native speaker who did something related to her field and then preparing an oral and written report.

What she found really special about CELOP was her classmates; she says she will never forget the moments she shared with them inside and outside the classroom.  She also enjoyed attending the reading club and the other activities that Jenn Kay Fields organized, which she describes as “a great chance to relax”  while improving my English.

Ruth says that there is no room for doubt if you are considering studying at CELOP. She encourages all students to interact with others, get involved in the academic activities and go to the trips, in order to turn learning English into a really enjoyable experience.
