Naoko Tsuchimochi

Naoko Tsuchimochi

Naoko, from Japan, studied at CELOP in the summer of 2000.  She major in Television Production and will graduate from Boston University’s College of Communication in 2005.

What does she think of CELOP?

CELOP is well-organized.  It has various class levels ranging from beginning to advanced.  Students are also from diverse countries.  The school is big; however, the staff give students careful treatment.  CELOP has trustworthy curriculums and enjoyable activities.  Everything is united and well-managed at CELOP.

While at CELOP, Naoko learned to balance formal classroom learning with informal learning that occurred in a range of different settings. Naoko “could feel the American academic atmosphere because BU permitted CELOP students to use BU facilities such as the computer labs and the library.”  She felt “encouraged to study hard for the TOEFL” and was able to improve her TOEFL score and gain entrance into Boston University.

I realized the best way to learn English was to study English in English, not in Japanese.  When I studied English at CELOP, I gained a feel for English gradually.  Of course it is important to memorize English words and to study text books, but it is also important to get a feeling for how to use English.

Most CELOP students live in dormitories together, which enables them to quickly find good friends:

Even if we were from diverse countries and in different classes, we visited each other’s rooms and went to dinner together. All of us were always together when we studied and ate and slept.  I am still in contact with some of the friends I made while studying at CELOP.

CELOP gave Naoko different opportunities to enjoy American life while learning English:

I went to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Tanglewood and more on CELOP tours.  I enjoyed a pizza party in the CELOP lobby.  I cannot forget the $1 tour on the very first day.  I went to a Blueman Group show for a cheap price.  I won first prize in the CELOP photo contest.  CELOP offered us diverse forms of entertainment and all of them gave me good memories.
