Fulbright Scholars Summer 2006

Ali NouhAli Nouh

Ali is originally from Syria.  He is currently pursuing a Master of English degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Our teachers encouraged us to listen to and learn from a variety of different opinions.  They prepared us to be successful in all of our different academic pursuits by exposing us to real life academic situations.  Our instructors did everything possible to enable us to improve our academic English skills.  They were kind, cooperative, and they paid attention to our diverse individual needs.  Our instructors knew how to impart useful general knowledge while including information that was specific to our fields of study.

Sometimes at the end of the day, our class would debrief at the Boston Public gardens.  It gave me peace to be in such a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by water and birds at the end of a day of intensive learning.

If you are interested in studying English at a high-quality institution, I strongly recommend CELOP.  Studying at CELOP eases you into academic life.   It is especially useful to attend CELOP to ward of culture shock and you help you as you adapt to life in the United States.

Thiago Fernando RangelThiago Fernando Rangel

Thiago is from Brazil.  He is currently studying Ecology and Evolution at the University of Connecticut.

CELOP offered a secure environment in which we could explore new ways of life in the U.S. without emphasizing success or failure.  Our instructors always encouraged us to enjoy our lives in Boston, which is a city that is highly conducive to learning.

If you are considering studying ESL in the U.S., I highly recommend CELOP.

I really enjoyed the multicultural aspects of my classes.  I feel that I have known my colleagues for a long time, and I care deeply for each one of them.  I feel that I have formed lasting friendships here at CELOP.  If members of the United Nations were trained here at CELOP, I feel that the world would be a much more peaceful place.

Andre KoneAndre Kone

Andre is originally from Mali.  He is currently pursuing his Master of Arts degree  in Educational Leadership at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

CELOP gave me an important introduction to U.S. society.  The things I learned here will help me save time when I pursue my Master’s degree full time.

We received an extremely high quality education at CELOP; we were exposed to a variety of useful topics in our classes.   The relaxed atmosphere of our classes helped us feel comfortable learning from and sharing ideas with each other.  The staff, instructors, and all CELOP employees have been most helpful.

The field trips we went on and the outside learning activities enabled students to learn experientially.

I learned so much about my international colleagues in these past weeks; my experiences at CELOP have really broadened my horizons.

Bojosi Moitsemang GamontleBojosi Moitsemang Gamontle

Bojosi is originally from Botswana.  She is currently persuing her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Arizona.

The orientation that CELOP offered when we first arrived was highly useful; it informed us of what resources were available to us and of how we could use them to settle in.  In our time together at CELOP, we networked with each other and grew to regard each other as valuable resources.

Our instructors are genuinely interested in learning about our countries and cultures .  They helped us gain essential knowledge in a relaxed environment.  Out teachers encouraged us to be creative.  They are open-minded and wanted us to share our views.  They always prepared handouts that were designed to meet our individual academic needs and they were interested in our future.

Our convenient access to all of the university’s facilities such as the computer lab, the health center, the library and gym really enhanced our language learning experiences.  In addition, the fact that we were surrounded by world-renown universities helped us feel that we were part of a top-notch academic community.

While I was writing a short story in a CELOP class, I was able to get feedback from a published professional author, who also happened to be my teacher.  This was a very memorable experience.

I would like to thank the Fulbright program and the Botswana government for this opportunity.

Tshepelayi KasataTshepelayi Kabata

Tshepelayi is originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo.  He is currently studying Agricultural Economic at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

When I first heard that I would be studying at CELOP, I was very excited to be attending one of the most prestigious English Learning Centers in the world.  I continued to be impressed with the quality of education I received and the good humor of our teachers and classmates.

CELOP teachers are highly motivated to help us develop essential academic skills.  I noticed that they were well prepared to teach us what we needed to learn.

Our class was made up of a beautiful mix of people from all over the world.

The extra activities offered at CELOP, for example the Short Story Club and the Friday afternoon movies, enabled us to develop our academic skills and learn more about American culture in a relaxed environment.   After being I member of these clubs, I feel better prepared to adjust to American realities.

My experiences at CELOP have enabled me to gather a great network of respectable professionals from all over the world.

I was very struck by the way Americans accepted me into their society.  The CELOP Director, Margot Valdivia was especially helpful and friendly.  Jenn Kay Fields is a marvelous person.  She is highly helpful and very kind.  She is so easy to talk to and I feel that she is a model American.
