Mohammad Bashar Rahabi
Bashar, from Syria, began studying at CELOP in the summer of 1983. He is now the manager of Starbucks on Commonwealth Ave.
He thinks that taking classes at CELOP provided him with a unique opportunity to meet people from different countries and learn about different cultures. Bashar liked that fact that although the people who attend CELOP classes are so diverse, they are united around the common goal of learning English.
When studying at CELOP, he expanded his specific knowledge of the English language as well as his general academic knowledge. His experiences at CELOP enhanced his English grammar and vocabulary, as well as his tolerance of the customs of citizens of other countries.
Even though he studied at CELOP over 20 years ago, he is still in regular contact with some of the friends he made here and he treasures these lasting ties.
Bashar feels that his study at CELOP empowered him to feel confident communicating with others outside of CELOP. He felt well-prepared to attend an American university, because CELOP gave him experience with the American way of educating, including the emphasis on being on time, the grading system and collaborating with students from all over the world.
