Professor Cutler Cleveland has recently launched The Encyclopedia of Earth, an ongoing project that aims to be the largest reliable information resource on the environment in history. It is completely free and kept constantly up-to-date. The project has already attracted a large group of distinguished editors and authors of the highest caliber, from renowned international institutions. Associate Professor Nathan Phillips is hosting the IUFRO Canopy Processes Working Group Workshop from Oct. 6 through 13. Workshops will be held at several points in New England. Visit people.bu.edu/nathan/iufro_info.html for information on the workshops and how to register.
The Association for the Study of Peak Oil (ASPO-USA) and CEES are co-sponsering the 2006 World Oil Conference, "Time for Action: A Midnight Ride for Peak Oil," at the GSU's Metcalf Ballroom, from Oct. 25 through 27. Brown Bag seminars are held most weeks during the semester. The next one coming up is on Thursday, Oct. 12, 12:30 p.m. in the Geography and Environment student lounge (STO 442). The speaker will be Department Chairman Mark Friedl. There will be free pizza and sodas.
