The
CECB, in conjunction with the Biology Department, offers an undergraduate
Biology Concentration with a Specialization in Ecology and Conservation
Biology (SECB). The
specialization is designed to provide Biology Concentrators with an
option to explore upper-division courses in one of the most exciting
areas of contemporary biology.
This
specialization offers courses drawn from topics including ecology, forest
ecology, ecosystem ecology, symbiosis, behavioral ecology, biogeography,
animal behavior, vertebrate biology, plant biology, biology of mammals,
ornithology, evolution, molecular phylogenetics and evolution, tropical
ecology, biodiversity and conservation, and marine biology. In addition
to these exciting topics, students are also eligible to take designated
courses offered by the Department of Geography and Environment. Pre-
and co-requisite courses in chemistry, physics, math and computer science
fulfill the science and math requirements for this specialization. Qualified
students are encouraged to participate in the semester-long Tropical
Ecology Program, other approved off-campus field-based courses, and/or
to engage in independent research projects with faculty during the summer
or academic year. This specialization provides students with a sound
conceptual framework in ecology and conservation biology and hand-on
experiences for future employment and internship opportunities in the
academic, government, and private sectors.
