Rainforest Understory During hikes along the stations many trails, it may be tempting to stare up at the magnificent forest canopy. But don't forget diversity can also be found at you feet! The Rainforest Understory can be divided into two categories: vareza (within the rainforest flood plain) and terra firme (off the rainforest flood plain.) Keep a sharp eye on the ground, and you will soon see a diverse amount of reptiles, insects and plant life. |

The
Forest The trees themselves and the things that grow on them (epiphytes) are amazing to look at. There are a highly diverse number of tree species filling the forest: the majestic kapok tree, emergent trees and Cecropia that take advantage of forest gaps. |

Rainforest Canopy The canopy offers a great number of wildlife viewing opportunities: primates, birds, squirrels, not to mention beautiful lianas and bromeliads. And, if you're in the canopy tower, you'll get the chance to see this life first-hand. Check for coloration changes of various life forms at different heights. |

The Lagoon Located off the Lago trail at the TBS, the lagoon area offers unique wildlife viewing opportunities you wouldn't see deep within the forest. In addition to a variety of terrestrial species, there are numerous species of fish, including cichlids, armored catfish, hatchet fish, and others. You may also see turtles sunning themselves on logs. |
