I’m interested in cognitive development and cognitive evolution, particularly questions at the intersection of social cognition and music cognition:

  • Social inference and explanation: How do we come to infer others’ mental states from observable data, like other’s actions and possessions? Do we use social cognitive representations (like actions, intentions, and goals) to perceive and understand dance movements and musical sounds?
  • Origins of entrainment to music: Why do humans move in time with auditory stimuli like music? How did this capacity evolve? Does synchronized movement have social consequences?

I recently completed my graduate work in the psychology department at Harvard University. You can find more information about my research at my website.
