Host a zero waste event
A zero waste event diverts at least 90% of the waste generated before, during, and after the event from going to a landfill. It’s a great way to support Boston’s University’s Zero Waste Plan and show your commitment to the environment.
Here are some things to keep in mind when planning your zero waste event:
- Promote the zero waste goals of the event from the start.
- Ask attendees to RSVP to help minimize the amount of extra food you have at the end of your event.
- Reduce single-use disposables.
- Opt-out of paper products for your lunch meeting or small office gathering and instead use reusable dishes in your office, or encourage attendees to bring their own.
- For staffed catered events, choose china to reduce single-use waste.
- Look at the decor, giveaways and other materials that are a part of your event. Try to minimize single-use items, when single-use materials are necessary look for items that can be recycled and/or composted.
- Select the Zero Waste Catering package for food waste collection at the end of your event.
- Display the appropriate waste stream signage at your event to help attendees sort their waste.
