Apply to BU

As the largest undergraduate college — home to half of BU’s undergraduates — Arts & Sciences is at the heart of the BU undergraduate academic experience. Almost all BU students take classes in CAS, which offers more than 1,600 courses in the BU HUB, our university-wide general education program.

As an Arts & Sciences student, you can choose from 80+ majors, 60+ minors, and 3,500+ courses in nearly 50 academic departments and programs in the humanities, natural and social sciences, and mathematical and computational sciences.

You can study with world-class research faculty committed to cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, creative thinking, and experiential learning, including a MacArthur Fellow, a former US Poet Laureate, a National Book Award winner, Guggenheim Fellows, and members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

You can enroll in the Core Curriculum, a unique learning community that provides a foundation in classic texts and fundamental ideas that have shaped our world and connects students to one another through co-curricular programs and events.

You will experience the BU Writing program, housed in CAS, which connects undergraduates across schools and disciplines to help you develop writing and communication skills and habits of mind essential to your future personal, professional, and civic life.

You can take advantage of an interdisciplinary major within Arts & Sciences or a joint program with one of the professional schools on campus, or get a head start on your postgraduate education through our many joint BA/MA programs.  You can also choose a course of study that will allow you to graduate with honors in your chosen major or minor.

You will have access to one-on-one academic counseling, in your academic department or through the pre-medical and pre-law programs, helping you decide what path to take and how to position yourself for success after graduation.

You will experience first-hand how to take arts and sciences into action through a wide range of research opportunities, internships, experiential learning, project-based courses, and more. Our new Experiential Learning Connector can help you find opportunities where you can build on the knowledge and skills you gain in the classroom, explore new ideas and questions, test possible interests, create networks and connections, and translate passions into real-world pre-professional experiences.

At CAS, you will become a thoughtful leader, thinker, and doer, able to envision a better future and poised to make it happen. Learn more and apply.
