What is the Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health?
The Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health is a two-day Challenge that will bring teams of MBA students from all over the world together to showcase their ideas on how information technology could influence and transform global healthcare to create value for the world.  Teams of full-time students from the world’s leading MBA programs will come together to offer insights to executives from leading IT and healthcare firms.

Who can participate?
The Second Annual Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health is an invitation only competition consisting of full-time MBA students from business schools throughout the world.

When will the Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health be held?
The Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health will be held at the Boston University School of Management on March 20-22, 2014.

What are the prizes for this competition?

Grand Business Challenge Prizes (all amounts are in USD)
1st Place – $25,000
2nd Place – $15,000
3rd Place – $10,000
4th Place – $7,500

Teams not selected to compete in the final round will also have an opportunity to win prize money!

Participant Details

Is there an application process to enter the Challenge?
No.  Participation in the Second Annual Grand Business Challenge in Digital Health is by invitation only.

Is there a fee to enter the Challenge?
There are no registration or application fees.  We will cover the costs of your stay during your participation at Boston University.

How many members should each team have?
Each team is required to have four participants.

What is the format for the Challenge?
Teams will receive a specific briefing on the first night of the Challenge (March 20).  Teams will then have until 12:00 noon on the following day to work on their presentations before submitting them to the judges. The first round of presentations will take place on March 21 and will be judged by Merck executives and industry experts.  Four teams will be selected to compete in the Grand Business Challenge on Saturday, March 22; the final 4 teams will be announced at a dinner reception on Friday, March 21.  We have designed this as a collaborative event to learn from and advance new ideas on an important global theme.  The prize winners will be announced at the closing dinner reception on Saturday, March 22.

Those teams who are not selected for the final round will have the opportunity to compete for prize money in a Second Day Challenge.  

What is the format for the final presentation?
The final presentation will be delivered to the judges, Challenge participants, and students on Saturday, March 22nd in the School of Management Auditorium.  Business Attire is required for the final presentations and the award ceremony.

Can more than one team from a single school compete?
No, only one four-member team per school may compete.  Only ONE team per school will be accepted.

Will Boston University make hotel arrangements for teams?
The School of Management has welcomed an impressive group of teams from across the globe for the Case Competitions in prior years.  As host of the competition, we will provide accommodations at the Residence Inn Boston Back Bay-Fenway, which is just a brief walk from the School. The Hotel is accessible by public transportation; take the MBTA Green line (B, C, or D train) to the Kenmore stop. Hotel reservations will be for March 20, March 21, and March 22 (check out date will be March 23).  Two rooms will be assigned to each school.  Each room will have a bed and pull-out couch.  For teams that have three members of the same gender, a cot will be added to one room.

Where is the Boston University School of Management located?
The School of Management is located at 595 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, just outside of Kenmore Square.

Is the School accessible via public transportation?
Yes, the School of Management is accessible via public transit (the MBTA Green line – B train); the closest stop is Blandford Street.  It is also a short walk from the Kenmore stop on the Green line (B, C, or D train).

Can international teams check into the hotel early or check out late?
Yes. International students may request one additional night before or after the competition (March 19th or March 23rd) at no charge to assist with the long travel.  Please inform us of that decision and we will adjust your hotel reservation accordingly.
