Guidelines for students planning to transfer into CAS

A completed IUT application with all necessary credentials must be on file in CAS Student Records (Room B3) by the following deadlines:

  • August 1 to register in CAS for Semester I
  • December 1 to register in CAS for Semester II
  • No applications will be reviewed between April 15 and June 15.

Students considering a transfer to CAS are required to schedule an appointment with an Academic Counselor in the CAS Academic Advising Center, CAS Room 105. Bring an unofficial copy of your transcript to this meeting. Transcripts can be obtained at the Office of the University Registrar, 881 Commonwealth Ave.

Students admitted to CAS with a major must work with the Director of Undergraduate Studies of their department to choose a faculty advisor. Students admitted to CAS as undeclared students (no major) must work with the staff of the Academic Advising Center (CAS 105) to select a faculty advisor.

Admission to the College of Arts & Sciences requires the following: a minimum 2.3 cumulative grade point average, good academic standing at your current school, and at least one full-time semester with twelve or more credits in a degree program at your current school. A grade point average of 2.0 in all academic coursework is required for graduation, as well as a minimum of 128 academic credits. Students will not be allowed to transfer during their senior year.

The Residence Requirement states: During the junior and senior years, a candidate for the BA degree is required to enroll in at least twelve courses while registered as a full-time student in the College of Arts & Sciences. The candidate must also be enrolled as a full-time student for the two consecutive semesters preceding graduation, including BU study abroad programs. Neither BU Summer Term nor exclusive enrollment in Metropolitan College will satisfy the residence requirement.
