The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences does not defer admission. However, if you are offered admission but wish to start at a later date, you may ask to be reconsidered for a future semester. Applications can be deferred for up to one year beyond your initial semester of admission. Your original application will then be reviewed with the new applicant pool, taking into account competition from other applicants and relevant work you have conducted in the interim. Keep in mind that the department is not obligated to re-offer you admission.
Your original application credentials are kept on file for one year so you need not resubmit them, unless you would like to provide updates. If you wish to submit updated materials such as a personal statement or resume, please email these documents to firstname.lastname@example.org at the beginning of the admissions cycle (early September). Documents can also be sent to our mailing address as listed below. You will not need to pay another application fee.
International students who are granted admission after reconsideration will be required to submit updated international student documentation (including financial support). Students will be notified by the Graduate School Admissions Office when this required documentation becomes necessary.
Requests for reconsideration can be made by submitting the Reconsideration Request Form or in writing to:
Graduate School of Arts & Sciences
705 Commonwealth Avenue, Suite 112
Boston, MA 02215
PLEASE NOTE: If you were not offered admission, you are not eligible for reconsideration. You must submit a new application and the application fee.
